Instagram is giving users more control over the appearance of their profiles with a new feature focused on tagged content. The update allows users to display selected photos and posts in which other people have tagged them directly on their main profile grid.

Until now, tagged photos and videos were generally kept in a separate section of an Instagram profile. Users could visit the dedicated Tagged tab to see posts uploaded by other accounts in which they had been tagged, but these posts did not normally become part of the user's primary profile grid.

The new option changes that experience. If there is a tagged post that you particularly like, you can choose to showcase it alongside the content already visible on your main profile.

How Did Tagged Posts Work Earlier?

Instagram has long allowed users to tag other accounts in photos and videos.

Suppose a friend uploaded a group photograph and tagged your Instagram account in the post. That content could appear under the Tagged section of your profile, depending on your tagging settings.

However, there was an important distinction between your main grid and tagged content.

Your main profile grid primarily displayed posts associated with the content you had published, while posts uploaded by other users in which you were tagged remained accessible through the separate Tagged tab.

This meant that even if a friend's post contained one of your favourite photographs, there was no straightforward way to make that tagged content appear as part of your primary grid in the same manner.

Instagram's latest update is designed to give users more flexibility over this.

What Changes With Instagram's New Feature?

With the new functionality, users can choose selected tagged posts and make them visible on their main profile grid.

The feature is not simply about automatically filling your main grid with every post in which someone tags you. Instead, it gives you greater control over which tagged content deserves a more prominent place on your profile.
