Silver Price Today, August 18, 2026: Silver prices came under pressure on Tuesday as weakness in international precious metals spilled over into the Indian futures market. MCX silver futures declined during early trade, while prices in the physical bullion market continued to vary depending on location, taxes and the source reporting the rate.
The movement is important for investors as well as consumers planning to purchase silver jewellery, coins, bars or other products. With silver trading at historically elevated levels, even a small percentage change can translate into a sizeable difference in rupee terms.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver futures slipped to around ₹2.35 lakh per kilogram, while international silver also moved lower.
MCX Silver Futures Fall Over ₹2,000
Silver witnessed selling pressure in the domestic futures market during the morning session.
MCX silver futures were trading around ₹2,35,886 per kg, down ₹2,162 or approximately 0.91%. The previous session's closing level was reported at around ₹2,38,048 per kg.
The decline shows the high volatility currently visible in precious metals.
Silver often experiences larger percentage movements than gold because its price is influenced by both investment demand and industrial consumption.
Silver Falls in International Market
Weakness was also visible in global precious-metal markets.
On COMEX, silver was trading around $65.335 per ounce, down approximately 1.35%.
Gold also slipped, trading near $4,452.90 per ounce after declining around 0.46%.
International gold and silver prices are closely tracked in India because global market movements, along with the rupee-dollar exchange rate, influence domestic precious-metal prices.
Silver Rates Vary Across Physical and Futures Markets
Consumers should understand that the silver rate quoted in the physical bullion market may not be identical to the price shown on MCX.
Delhi's bullion market silver price was reported at around ₹2,40,000 per kg including taxes in one market reference, while another retail-rate source quoted approximately ₹2,50,000 per kg.
Meanwhile, the MCX futures contract was trading at a lower level of around ₹2.35 lakh per kg.
These figures should not be treated as contradictory because physical bullion prices, retail quotes and futures contracts represent different markets and may include different costs, taxes, delivery conditions and pricing methodologies.

Silver Had Risen in the Previous Session
Tuesday's weakness comes after silver recorded gains in the previous trading session.
On Monday, MCX silver futures had climbed approximately 0.96%, with the September contract gaining around ₹2,270 to reach approximately ₹2,38,194 per kilogram during trading.
International silver had also strengthened, with New York prices rising around 1.64% to approximately $65.74 per ounce.
The reversal on Tuesday illustrates how quickly sentiment can change in the precious-metals market.
Why Does the Silver Price Change So Frequently?
Several domestic and global factors determine silver prices.
The US dollar is particularly important because silver is globally priced in dollars. Currency movements can therefore influence demand and domestic prices.
Interest-rate expectations also matter. Higher interest rates and bond yields can reduce the relative attractiveness of precious metals because gold and silver do not generate interest income.
Silver also has extensive industrial applications, including electronics, renewable energy technologies and solar equipment. Changes in expectations for global manufacturing and industrial demand can therefore influence its price.
Geopolitical tensions, inflation concerns and safe-haven demand can create additional volatility.
What Should Silver Buyers Keep in Mind?
Consumers purchasing physical silver should not rely only on MCX prices. The final retail price may include GST, dealer margins, making charges for jewellery and other applicable costs.
The purity of silver should also be checked carefully when purchasing jewellery, coins or bars.
Investors, meanwhile, should remember that silver can be significantly more volatile than many traditional savings products. A sharp rally can be followed by equally rapid profit-booking.
For August 18, silver is showing weakness in the futures and international markets, but prices remain sensitive to global economic developments, currency movements and changes in precious-metal sentiment.
