Delhi Lakshmi Yojana 2026: Eligible women in Delhi are set to receive monthly financial support of ₹2,500 under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. According to the announced schedule, pension letters will start being distributed from August 26, 2026, while payments are expected to begin reaching eligible beneficiaries from September 1, 2026.
The scheme, which came into effect on August 1, is aimed at providing financial assistance to eligible women from lower-income households in the national capital. However, the ₹2,500 benefit comes with specific rules regarding how the money can be used and saved.
Applicants must also meet requirements related to age, household income, Delhi residency and voter registration. Certain families, taxpayers, government employees and existing beneficiaries of specified government assistance programmes are excluded.
Here's what applicants should know about the payment structure, eligibility conditions and application process.
When Will Women Start Getting ₹2,500?
The Delhi government is preparing to begin issuing official pension letters to eligible beneficiaries from August 26, 2026.
An event is scheduled to be held at Talkatora Stadium on August 26, where pension letters will be handed over to women. District-level committees have also been directed to speed up scrutiny and verification of applications.
The monthly financial benefit is expected to start being credited from September 1, 2026 for approved beneficiaries.
The government is also expected to introduce a correction facility on the scheme's portal. This would allow eligible applicants to fix incorrect or incomplete information submitted with their applications.
How Will the ₹2,500 Monthly Benefit Be Paid?
One of the most important points for beneficiaries is that the entire ₹2,500 will not necessarily be available as freely spendable money.
Under the stated payment structure, ₹1,500 out of the monthly ₹2,500 benefit will be placed in a Recurring Deposit (RD) or Fixed Deposit (FD).
This savings component will remain locked until July 31, 2029.
The remaining portion will be transferred to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet linked to the beneficiary's bank account. This portion can be used for eligible day-to-day purchases.
The arrangement is designed to provide beneficiaries with immediate financial support while also building longer-term savings.
Can Beneficiaries Save the Entire ₹2,500?
Yes. Beneficiaries will have another option if they do not want to use part of the monthly benefit immediately.
A woman can choose to place the entire ₹2,500 monthly assistance into an RD or FD instead.
The same lock-in condition will apply, meaning the amount will remain locked until July 31, 2029.
This option may appeal to beneficiaries who prefer to accumulate the assistance as savings rather than use it for current expenses.
CBDC Wallet Will Have Spending Restrictions
The portion credited to the digital currency wallet will not be usable for every type of transaction.
Certain products and services have been placed on a negative list. According to the stated rules, the benefit cannot be used to purchase items such as alcohol and tobacco products.
Transactions involving narcotic or psychotropic substances, lottery tickets, gambling and betting will also be restricted.
Beneficiaries should therefore understand the wallet's permitted-use rules before attempting transactions.
Who Can Apply for Delhi Lakshmi Yojana?
The scheme is intended for eligible women aged 21 to 60 years. However, age alone does not qualify an applicant for the monthly assistance.
The woman must meet several other conditions.
She should be the eldest eligible woman in her family and must be a registered voter in Delhi.
The annual income of the applicant's family should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh.
The residency condition is also important. As of the date of application, either the applicant, her husband or one of her parents must have been a Delhi resident for at least 10 years.
Applicants should carefully verify these conditions before submitting their forms.
Who Will Not Be Eligible?
Several exclusion criteria have been included in the scheme.
Women already receiving a government pension or benefits under certain other government financial assistance programmes will not qualify.
The scheme also excludes specified categories such as income-tax payers, GST filers, government employees and people holding public office.
Household-level conditions will also be considered while determining eligibility.
A family may be excluded if it has more than three living children. Similarly, households consuming more than 2,400 units of electricity annually are outside the stated eligibility criteria.
Ownership of a four-wheeler can also make a family ineligible under the scheme's rules.
Since multiple conditions apply, applicants should not assume eligibility solely on the basis of age or income.

Are Applications Still Open?
Yes. Applications for the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana are expected to remain open throughout the year rather than closing after a single deadline.
Eligible women can apply through the designated Delhi Lakshmi Yojana portal.
The last day of each month will serve as the cut-off date for applications received during that month. Applications will then go through verification and eligibility checks.
Once an application is approved, the beneficiary can start receiving the benefit from the following month, subject to the applicable rules and processing.
This means women who do not apply immediately may still have an opportunity to enrol later if they meet all the eligibility requirements.
Verification Will Be Important Before Payments Begin
Verification is a key part of the process because eligibility depends on several factors, including income, voter status, residency, family circumstances and whether the applicant falls into an excluded category.
District-level authorities have been asked to accelerate the verification process so that eligible cases can be cleared without unnecessary delay.
Applicants should therefore make sure the information entered in the application matches their supporting documents. If incorrect information has already been submitted, the proposed correction facility could help eligible applicants rectify errors once it becomes available.
What Applicants Should Keep in Mind
Women planning to apply should first check the complete eligibility criteria rather than focusing only on the ₹2,500 monthly benefit.
It is equally important to understand the payment arrangement. Under the stated structure, ₹1,500 will ordinarily go towards an RD or FD, while the balance will be made available through a CBDC wallet with restrictions on certain purchases. Beneficiaries may alternatively opt to save the entire ₹2,500 through an RD or FD.
With pension letters scheduled to begin from August 26 and monthly assistance expected from September 1, eligible applicants should keep their application and verification details accurate to avoid processing delays.
Disclaimer: Scheme conditions, payment procedures and eligibility requirements may be revised by the government. Applicants should verify the latest rules, application instructions and approval status through official Delhi government channels before submitting personal information or making decisions based on the scheme.
