LPG e-KYC Update: Check the Latest Rule Before August 31 and Know What Happens If Verification Is Pending

Domestic LPG consumers who have not yet completed Aadhaar-based e-KYC should check their verification status soon, especially if they use Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas connections. A fresh report has claimed that the deadline for completing the process has been extended to August 31, 2026, giving customers additional time to finish the required verification.
However, there is an important clarification for consumers. Earlier guidance from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that biometric Aadhaar e-KYC is required for LPG customers who have not completed the process so far, while non-PMUY consumers who have already completed verification do not need to repeat it. The ministry also clarified that LPG refill supply should not be stopped merely because e-KYC is pending. (Moneycontrol)
This means customers should avoid panic over claims that their gas connection will automatically be cancelled or that cylinders will immediately stop being delivered after a particular date.
Who Needs to Complete LPG e-KYC?
The e-KYC requirement mainly applies to domestic LPG customers whose Aadhaar-based verification is still incomplete.
Consumers who have already completed the prescribed verification generally do not need to go through the process again, unless their category requires periodic authentication.
For beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the rules are slightly different. The petroleum ministry had said that PMUY customers need e-KYC once in a financial year for receiving targeted DBT subsidy after seven refills, beginning with the eighth and ninth refill. (Moneycontrol)
Therefore, consumers should first verify whether their LPG account actually shows e-KYC as pending before repeating the process unnecessarily.
Will Your LPG Connection Be Cancelled If e-KYC Is Not Completed?
There is no indication in the ministry’s clarification that a domestic LPG connection will automatically be terminated simply because biometric verification remains incomplete.
The government had specifically said that refill supply would not be affected in any case because of incomplete e-KYC. (Moneycontrol)
This is an important distinction because several messages circulating among consumers have suggested that failure to complete e-KYC could immediately stop cylinder delivery.
Consumers may still face issues related to eligibility verification or targeted subsidy benefits if required authentication remains incomplete, particularly in categories where Aadhaar verification is linked to benefit delivery.
So, while completing e-KYC is advisable, customers should not assume that their connection will disappear overnight once the stated deadline passes.
Why Is Aadhaar e-KYC Being Done for LPG Connections?
The verification exercise is intended to improve the accuracy of LPG consumer records.
According to the petroleum ministry, e-KYC helps establish genuine beneficiary identity, improve transparency, remove ghost or duplicate consumers and discourage diversion of domestic LPG. (Moneycontrol)
Domestic LPG is meant for household consumption, while commercial LPG is priced and supplied under a different structure.
Verification therefore helps oil marketing companies identify genuine household users and reduce the risk of cylinders being diverted for unauthorised commercial use.
The exercise is also relevant for targeted subsidy payments because the government needs to ensure that benefits reach eligible consumers.
Indane Customers Can Complete e-KYC From Home
Indane customers can complete Aadhaar-based authentication digitally using IndianOil’s supported services.
The commonly used process involves the IndianOil ONE app together with Aadhaar face-authentication services.
Customers should log in using the mobile number associated with their LPG account. Depending on the app interface, they may need their LPG consumer details or LPG ID to access their profile.
After opening the relevant LPG profile, customers can look for the e-KYC or re-KYC option and follow the instructions provided on the screen.
If Aadhaar face authentication is offered, the customer may be redirected to the supported Aadhaar FaceRD process to complete identity verification.
Because app menus can change over time, consumers should follow only the options displayed in the official IndianOil application rather than instructions received through unknown links.
What If Online e-KYC Is Not Working?
Customers who cannot complete verification through their mobile phone can use offline assistance.
They may contact or visit their authorised LPG distributor and ask for help with Aadhaar authentication.
In some cases, LPG delivery personnel may also be able to assist with verification using authorised systems.
Consumers should carry or provide only the documents and information required by the authorised oil marketing company or distributor.
Never share an Aadhaar OTP, banking PIN or other sensitive credential with an unknown caller, agent or website claiming to complete LPG e-KYC.
Bharat Gas and HP Gas Customers Should Also Check Their Status
The verification exercise is not limited to Indane users.
Domestic customers of Bharat Gas and HP Gas whose e-KYC remains pending should check the official channels of their respective oil marketing companies or contact their authorised distributor.
The safest approach is to use the official app, website, customer-care service or local distributor instead of clicking on links received through social media or messaging apps.
Fraudsters often exploit deadlines involving government services, KYC and subsidies to collect Aadhaar numbers, OTPs and banking information.
Does Pending e-KYC Mean You Will Have to Pay a Higher LPG Price?
Claims that every unverified customer will automatically be charged a higher commercial LPG price should be treated cautiously unless supported by an official notification.
The petroleum ministry’s earlier clarification focused on identity verification and subsidy eligibility and specifically said that refill supply would not be affected merely because e-KYC was incomplete. (Moneycontrol)
Therefore, consumers should not assume that missing e-KYC instantly converts a domestic LPG connection into a commercial one.
The more relevant risk may be a problem with targeted benefits or verification if the customer belongs to a category where authentication is required.
What LPG Customers Should Do Now
If your e-KYC is already complete, there may be no need to repeat the exercise.
If it is pending, complete it through the official digital or distributor channel at the earliest opportunity rather than waiting until the last day.
Consumers should also ensure that their registered mobile number and LPG account details are updated so that verification can be completed smoothly.
Most importantly, do not rely solely on viral messages claiming that LPG supply will immediately stop or that a connection will be cancelled after August 31.
The government's earlier clarification makes it clear that e-KYC is an ongoing verification exercise and that refill supply is not supposed to be disrupted simply because authentication is pending. (Moneycontrol)
For customers, the practical approach is simple: check whether e-KYC is pending, complete it through an authorised channel if required, and rely on official oil company or government communication for any future change in deadlines, subsidy rules or refill eligibility.
